Sign design tips
Your sign is often the first thing customers notice about your business. A few basics make it work harder.
Make it visible
Viewing distance is the first thing to plan for. Your sign has to stand out from its surroundings. When you don’t have room for lettering as large as you’d like, try light letters on a dark background — the contrast makes letters look larger and easier to read.
Make it readable
Pick lettering that keeps each letter distinct. Black on yellow and yellow on black are among the easiest combinations to read at a distance.
Use borders and graphics
A border and a graphic add visual interest, and the extra color helps people remember what they read. Borders also help the eye find and read the message faster.
Keep it legible
The right typeface and spacing help readers tell letters and words apart. We can help you choose.
Keep it fresh
Changing a sign’s message, color, size or shape from time to time draws new attention.
